No Tank, for awhile

The NFL finally handed down a suspension to the Bears' Tank Johnson - 8 games, half of the 2007-2008 season. Was this fair? Yes. And it showed that the league will be reasonable. Instead of jumping to their overzealous full season suspension, like they did to the Titan's star cornerback, the new commissioner dealt with this one right.

While yes, Tank committed a pretty serious offense - having large amounts of illegal firearms in his home - he has been straight arrow since. Additionally, beforehand he didnt do that much.

Personally, I think that offenses such as Tank's, where he is not going looking for trouble - by getting into bar fights, shouting homophobic remarks and the like (interestingly enough, offenses white players have largely gotten away with) - are different than the aggressive thrill seeking offenses. Frankly, if Tank's house hadn't of been raided, this wouldnt have been a big deal. YES, he broke the law, but the law came after him, not the other way around.

In the end, hopefully Tank will be in tip-top shape when the Bears need him towards the middle of the season when their starting Defensive Tackle gets injured, again.
